From pre-statehood campsite to modern-day football powerhouse, join SMPS Oklahoma for a guided walking tour through the heart of Norman. This experience blends local history, architecture, and culture into an easy, engaging afternoon of exploration.

As we make our way through downtown, you’ll uncover the unexpected stories that shaped Oklahoma’s third-largest city, including:

• How graffiti gave the town its name
• Where “Boomers and Sooners” came from
• Why OU football started off on the wrong foot
• How merchants once celebrated a catastrophic fire
• The local retail chain that outcompeted Walmart
• The architect behind a lavish historic movie house
• The political miracle that kept Norman out of Oklahoma County (no offense, Edmond)
• And how a simple brick turns totally magical

• Start Location: Inside Beanstalk Coffee & Sno (207 E. Main St, Norman)

Parking

• Street parking on Main St is free for 1 hour
• Municipal lot at 228 E Gray St (behind the starting point):
  • Free on weekends
  • $0.25/hour Monday through Friday (until 6:00 PM)
